The Death of Jesus as Meaningless?
A Tentative Approach to Christological Love
Keywords:
Death, Jesus, Selfdonation, FreedomAbstract
In general, human death has no meaning in itself. Its meaning is given in hope, faith and love. Jesus' death is no exception. It had no meaning either for Jesus himself, or for his disciples and their contemporaries. To pretend otherwise is to rob Jesus' kenosis of its power. Jesus' death was not intended to serve any ideology. His death is a free self-donation in which God reveals his love for mankind.
