GENERAL

Users and subscribers agree to uphold the following terms and conditions when using the services on this website.

  1. Hekima Review, the Journal of Hekima University College, solely reserves the copyright of the databases and services offered on this site. The databases and services are products (issues and articles) of different authors made available on this website following their explicit permission and consent.
  2. The Hekima Review online services operate at two basic levels. On the one hand, most of the databases published on this website are freely accessible to all users. On the other hand, some restricted data are made available only to subscribers.
  3. The views expressed in the published issues/articles do not necessarily reflect the opinion of Hekima Review’s editorial board. Hekima Review assumes no responsibility for errors, omissions, or any liability or damages from using the information contained herein. However, genuine complaints bordering on ethical integrity, such as plagiarism, shall be promptly and appropriately addressed.

ACCESS PRIVILEGES

  1. Hekima Review grants non-exclusive, non-transferable rights to use the published databases and services on this platform during the defined subscription year.
  2. Hekima Review expressly reserves all rights not explicitly granted herein to subscribers.
  3. Hekima Review shall make its databases and services available freely to all its online users and subscribers.
  4. In addition to the open-access databases and services made available freely to all users of Hekima Review’s website, subscribers to Hekima Review shall have unlimited access to all restricted published issues and articles during the subscription year.
  5. The terms and conditions below bind all users of Hekima’s Review’s online services and databases.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  1. Hekima Review remains the original copyright owner of the databases and services displayed on its website. Hekima Review does not transfer any ownership of the databases.
  2. Hekima Review shall provide direct access to the databases and services only to users and subscribers.
  3. Remote access to the databases or services is permitted to students and employees of subscribing institutions accessing from remote locations for personal, non-commercial use.
  4. It is unacceptable for subscribers to use the databases or services on Hekima Review’s website for commercial gain or cost reduction.
  5. The databases and services published material on Hekima Review’s website are for the academic consumption and consideration of users and subscribers. Hence, they may view, save, download, store, or print citations, abstracts, or complete texts as long as they act in accordance with international copyright law.
  6. Users and subscribers may also pass the materials on Hekima Review’s website to a third-party colleague for scholarly usage but not for sale.
  7. Limited databases and services accessible only to subscribers are not to be made available for systematic distribution on an institutional repository, public/personal website, public/personal social media page, or personal page of an aggregator site such as Academia.edu and ResearchGate. Only the freely accessible databases and services may be shared/posted on the mentioned platforms.
  8. The re-publication of any article initially published in Hekima Review requires written consent from the director of Hekima Review. The latter publication must cite the original publication in Hekima Review.
  9. Aside from the databases and services published on an open-access basis, subscribers may not reproduce, distribute, share or sell the restricted accessible databases and services on this site for use in any paid service. Such an engagement demands prior written consent, officially authorized by the director of Hekima Review.
  10. Subscribing institutions cannot advertise on this platform.
  11. Subscribing institutions are responsible for their activities and those of their students/employees on the website.
  12. The computer software utilized via Hekima’s Databases and Service(s) is protected by copyright law and international treaties. Users and subscribers are strongly advised to refrain from attempting to modify, translate, or discover the software’s source code.
  13. Users and subscribers must not manoeuvre any security measures designed to control access to Hekima Review’s website, attempt to access unassigned materials, probe the vulnerability of the system, attempt to obtain the privacy, identity or personal details of other users, or assist and unauthorized persons to gain access to sensitive materials on the website.
  14. Users and subscribers must abide by contractual, copyright and any other restrictions specified by Hekima Review.

LICENSE

  1. Immediately after the editorial board of Hekima Review approves an article for publication, the director of the Review will officially write to the author(s) with the terms of publication, seeking their explicit consent (See: the Authors’ Consent Admission Form for details). The authors’ consent implies that:
    • Hekima Review will publish their articles (in print and digital formats) and make the digital articles available for three years to subscribers only.
    • After three years, the articles will be made open-access and available to all Hekima Reivew’s website users.
    • Articles will be published under a CC Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 license.
  1. The general scientific community norms, especially citation of one’s sources, will apply to all accessible materials on this platform. For more explanation on the Creative Commons license, which applies to the published articles on Hekima Review’s website, kindly refer to About CC Licenses - Creative Commons.

PRIVACY POLICY

  1. As part of the sign-up or registration process for using the website and accessing databases and services, Hekima Review may collect your personal information.
  2. The personal information entered in the Journal’s site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this Journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.
  3. To access some databases and services on Hekima Reivew’s website, you may be required to sign up and subscribe. Please note that maintaining strict password confidentiality is solely and exclusively your responsibility.
  4. Hekima Review shall consciously protect users/subscribers’ personal data and prevent unauthorized infringements and actions on Hekima Review’s website beforehand.

SUBSCRIPTION POLICY

  1. Hekima University College fully funds Hekima Review, and publication therein is free. Hekima Review does not demand publication fees from interested authors. The Journal does not also give honoraria to its editorial board members, peer-reviewers, and authors.
  2. To cushion the financial burden of publication, newly published issues from one to three years of publication on Hekima Review’s website shall be accessible only through an annual subscription fee (See subscription policy for details).
  3. Accessible issues/articles through subscription shall be made open and freely available three years after their publication date.
  4. Subscription shall be annual, beginning and ending with the dates stated on the invoice.
  5. Individual Subscription: Sign up/Register and make an annual subscription payment of $20 (Ksh 3,000). Users can subscribe using Paypal/Cards. Payment can also be made via Mobile Money (Mpesa – Send Money option) using the following account details: Phone No. 0741779713 Registered Name: Stephen Eyeowa. Activation will be done within 12 hours of payment. For Mpesa payments, the subscriber must first sign up on Hekima Review’s website and use the same name to pay into the Mpesa account. Should a different name be used for payment, the subscriber must write the director of the Review (director.review@hekima.ac.ke) after payment to indicate the name used to sign up on the website. Only after this shall Hekima Review activate the account not later than 12 hours after receipt of payment.
  6. Institutional Subscription: Interested institutions shall make an annual subscription payment of $200 (Ksh 30,000). The institution shall first contact the director of the Review (director.review@hekima.ac.ke) to agree on the access mode (IP Validated access), after which a PayPal invoice link will be sent to the institution for payment. Subscribing institutions may then pay using Paypal/Card or Mobile Money (Mpesa). Upon receiving payment, Hekima Review shall activate the institution’s account. This process will be completed at the latest 12 hours after payment.
  7. Taxes, if any, are not included in the respective fees mentioned above and may be invoiced separately. 

 WARRANTY AND DISCLAIMERS

  1. Hekima Review makes no representation of warranty. It reserves the right to make the site available to users and subscribers.
  2. Hekima Review will not be liable for any direct or indirect damages that arise (i) from the users’ or subscribers’ use of databases and services provided on the website or their inability to properly use the materials contained on the website.
  3. Hekima Review expressly disclaims any responsibility for liability obtained from users/subscribers’ use of the databases or services rendered on the site, such as violation of publicity, privacy, intellectual property, or moral rights.
  4. Hekima Review may also provide users and subscribers with links to third-party websites. However, Hekima Review absolves itself of all responsibility and liability for the content or damages from third-party websites. The user or subscriber assumes sole responsibility for any such liabilities.

TERMINATION

  1. Should there be a breach of obligations under this agreement, the user or subscriber shall have a period of 10 working days, starting from the receipt of official notification from Hekima Review, to remedy and prevent future occurrences of such breaches.
  2. Failure to respond promptly and adequately, Hekima Review has the right to temporarily deny the user or subscriber access to its databases and services or terminate the agreement.
  3. Once the infringement is resolved, Hekima Review may grant the user or subscriber access.

CONCLUSION

These terms and conditions suggest a complete understanding and consent of all parties to the subject matter of this agreement. Any amendment to the provisions of these terms and conditions that lacks mutual consent and is not officially written and signed shall be considered invalid. The rest shall subsist of the agreement if any part is deemed void.
