Spinoza and Christianity
Keywords:
Spinoza and ChristianityAbstract
This book has a surprising title: Spinoza and Christianity. These two words, placed side by side, seem provocative, especially when
we know that Baruch Spinoza is a figurehead of rationalism and pantheism. For this reason, he was anathematized by the majority of
theologians of his time to the point of being excommunicated by the rabbinical authorities of the Jewish community of Amsterdam. Accused of atheism and irreligion, Spinoza was at the heart of many controversies. But the author of this book, Henri Laux, considers that Spinoza’s thought cannot simply be qualified as atheistic. On the contrary, it pushes the Christian religion to its limits in order to question what God and the human condition are at the heart of Christian thought.
