Abstract

The story of Rwanda continues to evoke feelings of revolt, revenge, and, fortunately, reconciliation. As recent events have clearly shown, the task of reflecting on the last of these is an enormous challenge both to the people of Rwanda and the international community. The author of this article underscores the role of the Church in this task of attaining peace and reconciliation in Rwanda.
Its role is qf particular sign(ficance. It must include an honest self-examination, active participation in the drive to bring all the perpetrators of the genocide to justice, solidarity with all victims of the massacre, and active involvement in the struggle for justice. It is only in this way, the author argues, that the Church can fulfill its prophetic role.
