Abstract

The article explores the causes and subsequent effects of the recurrent interethnic conflict in the Njoro Sub-County. The Sub-county is one of the regions in Kenya that has experienced intermittent inter-ethnic conflict since the reintroduction of multi-party democracy in 1991. The conflict in the region has multiple causes. The consequences of the conflict have been enormous, interrupting the electoral process in the region, livelihood activities, and health services. ere is also heightened inter-ethnic and intraethnic mistrust and resentment against the government’s commitment to addressing the conflict. Hence, the article provides an in-depth
understanding of the causes and consequences of the conflict, which are a prerequisite for any interventions by various actors.
