UNDERSTANDING AFRICAN RELIGIOUS ART IN THE LIGHT OF ENGELBERT MVENG
Keywords:
Christianity, Anthropology, Symbolism, African Religious ArtAbstract
This article presents a panorama of African Religious Art celebrating life and worship. The philosophical and theological categories of symbolism, hermeneutics and artistic exegetics of the philosopher, historian, and theologian Engelbert MVENG are adopted to understand this issue. The article aims to restore the image of African Religious Art following the experience of colonization. Such audacity is born from the understanding that African Religious Art is a place for celebrating life and provides ritual symbolisms that give meaning to the African existential condition.
