John Baur, 2000 Years of Christianity in Africa

Abstract

Fr. John Baur's 2000 Years of Christianity in Africa is a very laudable achievement of a man who has a decades-spanning experience as a lecturer in Church History to African students of theology. Attempting to compress two millennia of Africa's encounter with Christianity into the pages of a single volume understandably brings limitations, but what Fr. Baur has accomplished is impressive. We are struck by how evenly he has written his work, especially when we consider the enormity of the undertaking, the volume of information to be considered and the tremendous diversity within the subject matter.
