A PERSONAL CHALLENGE TO-THE CHURCH IN IVORY COAST TODAY

Abstract

The Catholic Church in Ivory Coast will celebrate in 1995 the first centenary of its evangelization by the African Missions Society. On the
occasion of this event, I would like not to evaluate this first evangelization, but to indicate two challenges we should consider seriously if our Church is to make sense to our people and be faithful to Jesus' message of fellowship and total liberation. These two challenges are, first, the declericalization of the Church and, second, the Church's involvement in sociopolitical issues.
