Abstract

It was 9th February 1993 and for the tenth time Africa, adorned with her genuine smile, opened her arms in her usual hospitality to
welcome the Holy Father Pope John Paul II, to her soil. But this time the smiles did not last long. It happened in Rubaga Cathedral in
Uganda where most of us were struck with amazement at the announcement made by the Pope on the venue of the proposed
Bishops' Synod on Africa. A Synod of Bishops which would centre on the emerging Church in Africa and her concerns is going to take place in Rome!
