Abstract

The question as raised here could seem useless, or even meaningless. For many people- even among the scholars - it is
obvious that it must be an African who should be honoured with such a title and further reflection follows as if this goes without saying.
Yet, one should recognize that this question is actually a very important one, for in it the relevance and the very nature of African
Christian Theology are at stake.
In this short article, we shall try to answer this question by considering some common answers and their criticism (1), then we
shall try to discover a better and more precise response to the question {II), and finally, we shall reflect on the dimorphism of Fr. Tempels' works and its consequences (Ill)
