Abstract

This article examines the traditional roles African women play in the family and how they are an indispensable factor towards evangelisation in the African Church. Some of the tasks I look at include woman as life giver, “powerhouse of the stomach” for the entire family, gatherer, home maker, caregiver, compassionate listener, innovator, moral educator for the children, and intercessor. The article argues that considering some of these roles as based on some innate special gifts of God can aid in the propagation of the Gospel in the continent if harnessed and utilized well.
