The Role of Women in the Catholic Church and Their Participation in Liturgy

The participation of women in the Catholic Church has been debated in recent decades. As roles in Church leadership have been considered dominated by men, some have noted that women have often been assigned only menial roles that are sometimes underpaid or undervalued, and thus less prized by the Church. In this paper, I propose to challenge the misconception of the role of women in the Catholic
Church and their participation in liturgy by offering a theological reflection on the role of women in the liturgy. The essay will argue that women are allowed to participate in liturgy. Moreover, women are not secondary in the Church. The fact that the Church has not yet ordained any woman to the priesthood is not justifiable enough to argue that women are given menial roles in the Catholic Church.
