Toward An African Womanist/ Feminist Biblical Scholarship
Keywords:
African Womanist, FeministAbstract
In recent decades, African women have made strides in theological studies. The work of the members of The Circle of Concerned African Women Theologians attests to this development. However, African women biblical scholarship is yet to develop at the same pace. Handicapped by academic opportunity and financial resource, potential African women biblical scholarship appears to be in the incubating state. Church documents as well as contemporary scholarship that emphasize contextual theology suggest that women’s insights in biblical studies remain invaluable for a more effective evangelization. In this essay, I show the challenges that confront African women’s biblical scholarship and propose ways to encourage women exegetes to contribute to the integral growth of persons and of the Church on the Continent.
