Some Preliminary Notes on Gender, Culture and Theology

Abstract

Is gender disparity a “given”, inscribed in the very nature of things, or is it a socio-cultural construction, the result of relationships gone sour? What is the relationship of gender to culture and how is this echoed in theological discourse? These are some of the underlying questions of this paper that explores some avenues along which gender related issues can be articulated. It does not offer a panacea for all gender related issues; rather it suggests a framework within which reflection on these issues can be carried out in a holistic manner.
