The process of democratization is continuously encountering challenges that cannot be resolved immediately. The prevailing challenge is how to construct a permanent bond between culture and democracy. This paper, from contemporary African perspective, attempts to demonstrate the relationship between culture, ethnicity, and democracy. The aim of the presentation is to show that implementation of democratic ideals must also take into account the import of culture and context as a starting point.
