Abstract

Given the full length of the Ignatian Exercises it appears rather curious to dedicate a full article to the matter of a single day. The question comes to mind whether it is really worthwhile to take the trouble of, going into depth in order to bring out the hidden meaning of the meditations of this day. My answer is a full "yes".
The understanding of the Fourth Day in the Second Week can become a key to grasp the complex journey of the entire Second Week. Since this day contains proper Ignatian meditations it also reveals powerfully the subtle intentions of the author.
Moreover, everybody who desires to obtain more skills in the discernment of the spirits will discover in the Two Standards a kind of basic introduction to it. The purpose of this paper is simply to study shortly the context of the Fourth Day in Week Two, and to analyse
more closely the vocabulary of the meditations.
