Abraham’s Plea for Sodom and God’s Justice
Keywords:
Abraham, Sodom, Justice, IntercessionAbstract
This essay is an exegetical paper, an attempt to analyse and actualise the biblical passage which might be one of the most compassionate and persistent prayers in the Bible: Genesis 18: 16-33. Before God, Abraham dares to plead for Sodom and Gomorrah, wicked cities, assuming the role of an intercessor. He is standing humbly before the Lord as a man of faith and as a righteous person chosen by God. Throughout the conversation, God reveals Himself as a fair and righteous Judge. Why is Abraham allowed to play such a role? What is the relevance of this text for our faith today? These are specifically among the important questions this paper intends to deal with.
