Living a Refugee Identity and Its Theo-Ethical Implications

e article examines the concept of ‘refugee’ as used in contemporary society. It challenges the refugee construction as a conventional identity to denote a certain group of people who have been forced to see their home countries and seek refuge in other countries. It further argues that labeling such people as refugees not only classifies them as non-citizens but also consciously and unconsciously perpetuates various forms of stigmatization upon those carrying such identity. e article critically calls for a revisit of the contemporary refugee constructed identity and proposes an accommodative model that not only has positive implications and could improve the dignity of all humanity but also as challenges us to witness to the reign of God through demonstrating love, care and compassion to fellow human beings as Sons and Daughters created in God’s image and likeness.
