A Discourse in the Criminal Justice System
Maximization of the potential of Restorative Justice in Africa
Abstract
This article describes principles and practices within the maximization of the potential restorative justice; it shows how it can provide a context for promoting peace and restoring healthy interpersonal relationships in Africa. It observes that restorative justice has the capacity to engage victims and cinders more keenly in the process of reexamining themselves and their lives, if justice is to serve one of its key purposes: the protection of the community and the recovery of cinders as meaningful citizens. ae article uses the post-genocide gacaca courts in Rwanda as examples of restorative justice in practice in Africa.
