Abstract

Zimbabwe: The Past is The Future, edited by David Harold-Barry is a collection of essays by writers whose expertise, wealth of experience and research lend the book an excellent reading. The writers treat topical issues ranging from politics, and economics, to civil rights in both pre-independence and post independence Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe used to be the bread basket of Africa but is now facing its worst ever economic crisis in history, characterized by acute foreign currency shortages, a run-away hyperinflationary environment and the scourge of graft. The economy has failed to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) due to the unhealthy economic and political environment. The government has had its share of criticism for contributing to the socio-economic and political environment through its high spending culture, political anarchy and corruption.
