Abstract

Among sociologists, it is a commonknowledge that in order to understand society objectively, some sort of historical study of causes and effects of various occurrences has to be brought forth. For sociologists, every social phenomenon is studied to know its causes,
before adequate suggestions could be brought forward to mitigate its effects. Considering the disease of HIV and AIDS which befell humankind, and the African continent in particular, three decades have elapsed but the impact-mitigation solutions seem to have done little to contain the cause of the disease. This paper seeks to uncover different stories; often unheard of in many settings. It aims at unearthing thediscrepancies found in the historical narratives about AIDS in human society and proposes new perspectives, worth undertaking if the World and Africa in particular are serious about jettisoning the scourge of HIV and AIDS.
