Abstract

In this May issue of Hekima Review, which builds on the previous one, the theme of ecology is further developed. If, in the December 2025 issue, the biblical creation narrative (Genesis 1) offers valuable insights into integral ecology in view of justice, peace and sustainable development, this time, the Parable of the Rich Fool (Luke 12:13-21) offers an introductory framework for deeper reflection on the ethical implications of neglecting our responsibility to ensure ecological and economic justice. The rich fool’s life was marked by what might today be described as an existence within a self-contained bubble, one that blinded him to his ecological and economic responsibilities to society, ultimately leading to his sudden demise. Lessons drawn from this intense and enigmatic parable may offer precisely the guidance needed to orient us toward more deliberate and conscientious efforts to safeguard the earth, our shared home.
