ECOLOGY AND THE BIBLE, ODD BEDFELLOWS? AN INVITATION TO ECO-BIBLICAL RENDEZVOUS

Abstract

Taking a twin cue from (i) the prophetic call of Pope Francis in Laudato Si'-which has contributed to an ecclesiological reform, particularly in how the Church perceives and responds to the current ecological crises and (ii) the Universal Apostolic Preferences (UAPs) of the Jesuits, this paper briefly introduces Ecological Biblical Hermeneutics, then avails the same to read three select biblical texts-one each from the Pentateuch, the Prophetic corpus, and the Wisdom Literature-in order to outline how our ecological commitment and biblical interpretation can be mutually illuminating and reciprocally fruitful.
